Oscar winner Robert Duvall's 13th movie was George Lucas's
first movie, THX 1138. He starred as a bald, drugged,
emotionless 25th century hominid. That part led to this horrible,
bald, non-human role: guest-starring in the series, Voyage
To The Bottom Of The Sea, as an entity from a 20 million
year-old race of beings, long-vanished from Earth.
The episode is entitled "The Invaders."

Daniel J. Travanti became famous by playing police
Captain Frank Furillo in the Emmy Award-winning
TV show, Hill Street Blues. But before that, he appeared
in Lost In Space in the painfully bad role of
an alien motorcycle gang chieftain sent to blow up
a planet on which the Robinsons had landed. The
credits list him as 'Daniel Travanty', but neither
the spelling, nor the wig, can hide his familiar face.

Lyle Waggoner became famous on the Carol Burnett Show.
Later he went on to star in the TV show Wonder Woman.
His parts in movies are all uniformly bad but this Lost
In Space appearance as "Mechanical Man I" is an all-time
low. Adorned in silver paint, terrible costume and not even one
speaking line, his part did nothing to find the evil female
robot of this episode except to be killed by her.

Michael Rennie is best known for the sci-fi classic,The Day The
Earth Stood Still. Lost In Space fans won't agree, but this
appearance as "The Keeper" uses little of his fine acting talents.
In goatee and carrying a glowing staff, the Keeper wanted to
capture the Robinsons for display in a zoo. Of all the LIS episodes, this
episode is probably "the keeper," but it was one low point in Rennie's career.

Michael Ansara's extensive credits range from the movie, The Robe,
to fame as Cochise in late 50's TV hit Broken Arrow to appearing as the Klingon,
Kang. But in Lost In Space, as The Ruler, he's a stoic combo of Cochise & Kang (with terrible
dialog and costuming.) The episode, "The Challenge", is noteworthy only for viewing
young Kurt Russell as Ansara's son and for hearing Ansara say: "The opinions
of women mean nothing to me."

Kurt Russell is a super-star. At the point young Russell appeared in Lost In Space,
he had been in his own TV series (it ran only one year), he had two other TV appearances and
had several movies under his belt. This was his first sci-fi role. As Quano, alien son of
The Ruler, Russell's poor acting must be due to dialogue, not lack of experience. Then again, young Billy Mumy
had lines from the same writers and he makes Quano look like guano.

Despite work in quality movies like Judgement At Nuremberg and
Ship Of Fools, Werner Klemperer is still best known for his TV role as
Colonel Wilhelm Klink on Hogans Heroes. In the Lost In Space episode,
"All That Glitters", he plays Captain Bolix, a space prison official hunting for an escaped
prisoner. The costume (or lack of one) bespeaks of the quality of this part. This
LIS role was Klemperer's only SF work. Who could blame him?

John Carradine's long list of credits includes many sci fi and horror roles. In the Lost In Space episode, "The Galaxy Gift,"
he appears as the frog alien-turned-human, Mr. Arcon. Actually, he is quite good in the role. But as is typical of LIS, he acting talents are
wasted under blue skin makeup and dialog which includes the line "Doors are my specialty." Acting was his specialty, but you'd never know it by this role.

In 1969, Ron Howard was no longer Mayberry's Opie and not yet the award-winning director of Cocoon or Backdraft.
In this Land Of The Giants episode, "Genius At Work", he appears as Jodie, sort of an Opie-fied young genius with a serum
that makes the "little people" as large as the "giants". Howard utters such dOpie-esque lines as "Well, sure!!" while peering
through the horned-rimmed glasses seen above.

Peter Graves gained fame as Mr. Phelps in the '60's TV series Mission: Impossible. Here he is Noah Cooper, a star-fighter pilot in TV's "Buck Rogers in the 25th Century." The October 25, 1979, episode, "Return of the Fighting 69th," aired 6-1/2 years after the Impossible series ended. In it, Cooper comes out of his forced retirement. As his helmet clearly shows, Graves should have stayed "retired" until the 1980 release of the successful film Airplane, in which he played pilot Capt. Clarence Oveur.
